Career Guide for Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Local 706

KC offer local 706 career guide courses for those who are already licensed and want to join the Hair make up Union local 706 or want to learn specialized skills. Each course has beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional levels. Each course includes production education, which is required for behind-the scenes and shooting: How to break into story board, How to find work, Union regulations, Production meetings, Budget, and Schedules. We keep class sizes small and offer flexible schedules. You can start anytime.

Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Local 706 is composed of makeup artists and hair stylists who work in the production of film, television, network broadcasting television, commercial, legitimate theater, and any place of amusement where Local 706 has a contract.

There are several ways to join Local 706, depending on the area in which you wish to be employed. For those desiring to work in the film and television industry, there are two defined ways to join.

The first is what is referred to as “60-60-60,” and the second is referred to as “Off-Roster” hire. To work in network broadcasting television, commercials or legitimate theater, the qualifications are similar to the “Off Roster” hire. All are explained below.

Qualifications for membership through 60-60-60

union706-2Industry Experience Roster Status (as per I.A.T.S.E. Contract, Paragraph 68) is the first step necessary to become eligible for the Industry Experience Roater. An individual is eligible for Industry Experience Roster status upon the completion of 60 days of Non-Roster work experience in each of 3 years, within the last 5 years (from the first day of hire), in Los Angeles County. This would include network television, videos, or non-union film or television production.

As Founder and Artistic Director of KC Beauty Academy, as well as an accomplished hairstylist in the film and entertainment industry, her unique wealth of knowledge and experience can help guide our students’ careers and provide them with an insider’s perspective of the entertainment business.  Yuko has worked in the film and entertainment industry in both Japan and Hollywood. She first began her career in Japan but quickly rose to the top of her profession in Hollywood as a hairstylist, working in films and TV shows such as Michael Jackson’s “This is It, ” “Pushing Daisies,” “Hunger Games” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.” For three consecutive years, she had Emmy nominations for Outstanding Hair.
